Social And Environmental Impact

Actually Africa donates 15% of every dollar we earn to lessons in Conservation (lic) to enable them to continue to inspire the Conservationists of tomorrow. What this means is that on top of the in person, on the ground difference that you will make in the community on safari with us, a substantial portion of the total cost of your safari is donated to a great cause. AT A GLANCE

The safari never stops at Meno a Kwena, a hidden gem of a camp perched on a rocky clifftop above the Boteti River. From their lofty position, the ten tents look down on a menagerie of animals at the water below, from herds of majestic elephant, to dazzles of nomadic zebra – all you need to do is sit back, and take it all in.

This will be your base for the volunteer experience, where you will participate in the education of local children in the mornings, and enjoy the lodge activities in the afternoons and evenings.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

  • Meno sits in an awesome location on the Boteti River overlooking the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park – a completely contrasting location, wildlife and habitat to the green and juicy Okavango Delta regions.
  • Watch the wildlife at the river below from the comfort of your private veranda; that’ s what we like to call an ‘ armchair safari.’ The zebra migration is resident here for much of the year. In the dry season there is no other water around and the Boteti River becomes a magnet for wildlife.
  • Enjoy a wide range of thrilling (and unusual) activities.
  • The camp is great value for money and an excellent choice for families – there ’ s a natural swimming pool and plenty of nooks and crannies for kids to explore and watch the action at the river below.

MENO A KWENA - INCLUDED ACTIVITIES

STARRY SLEEPOUT IN THE MAKGADIKGADI PANS

Depart Meno a Kwena after breakfast following your first night's stay and drive to the edge of the salt pans for a picnic lunch. Following an open-air siesta you continue to your campsite in time for sundowners. After a campfire dinner you will sleep under the vast skies with a blanket of a billion stars.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT PROGRAM

Spend the morning in the community with the Lessons in Conservation team, educating young children on the importance of conservation. From our past experiences, we know that the children will benefit, and we also know it impacts the lives of our involved guests.

BUSHMAN WALKING EXPERIENCE

Small Bushman families from the Ju! Hoansi clan in Xai Xai visit Meno a Kwena to share their nomadic tribe's knowledge. The cultural experience offers insight into their hunter/gatherer lifestyle alongside wildlife, appealing to all ages.

FLOATING HIDE

The floating hide is an additional activity that enhances the wildlife viewing opportunities right in front of camp. The hide offers you a new perspective to the wildlife activity in and around the river.

GAME DRIVE

Departing camp shortly after breakfast you can enjoy a full day of game viewing within the Makgadikgadi National Park. After a 90 min transfer to the Park gates, you will spend the day searching for the Park's plethora of species. Lunch and tea is taken in picturesque locations along the bank of the Boteti River often with elephants and antelope for company, as they pass through.
