Our founder, Blake Moynes, is making waves in wildlife conservation through his latest campaign aimed at saving Ontario’s boreal caribou.
In partnership with the David Suzuki Foundation, Blake is addressing the alarming decline of caribou populations due to habitat loss, primarily driven by industrial activities such as logging, mining, and resource exploitation.
In a recent interview, Blake emphasized the urgent need for action, noting that the federal government has mandated protecting 65% of boreal caribou habitats from industrial development, but that Ontario has yet to meet this standard. He is calling on the public and policymakers to hold the provincial government accountable for enforcing these crucial environmental protections. Blake is also collaborating with Indigenous communities to address the complexities of balancing conservation efforts with the economic needs of local populations, particularly in regions where logging provides jobs.
Despite these challenges, Moynes remains committed to bringing awareness to the issue and urging Ontarians to sign the David Suzuki Foundation’s petition in support of caribou conservation. He believes that collective action is key to making a significant impact and preserving these animals for future generations.
