about

Alaska Wildlife Alliance

Founded in 1978, the Alaska Wildlife Alliance (AWA) exists to give a voice to Alaska’s wild places and the animals that call them home. For decades, AWA has defended the wildlife and landscapes that define Alaska.

AWA supports vulnerable species through Endangered Species Recovery, addresses the impacts of a changing environment through Climate Adaptation efforts focused on long-term ecosystem resilience, and influences wildlife management and policy through its Voices for Wildlife program.

A core piece of AWA's mission is empowering people to become their own voice for Alaska's wildlife through public process, community outreach, and citizen science.Today, AWA remains the only statewide, Alaska-founded organization dedicated solely to protecting Alaska’s wildlife, ensuring these wild places and species endure for generations to come.

trip itinerary

Kickoff in Homer, Alaska!

Day 1

Welcome to Alaska! Our SOSA team will meet guests at the Homer Airport and bring you to our accommodation. If you arrive earlier, feel free to check in anytime between 3 - 6 pm and settle in before our official kickoff at 6:30 pm.

That evening, we’ll gather for our first team dinner alongside the Alaska Wildlife Alliance team - a relaxed opportunity to meet your fellow adventurers and local conservation leaders. The evening will include meaningful conversations with AWA about wildlife protection in Alaska, followed by orientation, a safety briefing, and a quick day-pack session to ensure we’re ready for the wild days ahead.

Arriving with extra time? Explore Homer’s scenic beaches, browse the local market, or visit the Pratt Museum. It’s the perfect warm-up before heading deep into the wilderness.

Into Katmai: Bush Flight, Camp Life & Wildlife Immersion

Day 2 - 4

No roads lead to Katmai - so we fly. Weather and tides guide our departure window, but we’ll aim for a 6 am private bush-plane flight, taking in dramatic mountains, forest, and coastline en route. Upon landing, guides Blake and Casey will welcome you to your home for the next three unforgettable nights, covering camp orientation: bear safety, fencing, bush-camp essentials, and observation etiquette.

We’ll spend long, rewarding days exploring Katmai’s wildlife circuit. With a passionate (some might say obsessive) focus on finding coastal wolves.

Between outings, enjoy curated field workshops led by Blake and Casey - touching on conservation, adventure skills, photography, and more. When conditions allow, you might take an all-natural cold plunge or warm up by a small fire, embracing the rhythm of camp life. Evenings bring simple, hearty guide-cooked meals and stunning golden-hour light that often lasts past 10 pm.

Departure Day

Day 5

One last coffee at camp as we pack up, celebrate our adventures, and take a moment to soak in the jaw-dropping views before our chartered bush plane ride back to Homer. If the tides allow, we may even squeeze in one final expedition session along the coast to ensure each one of you fill that bucket list right to the top!

Back in Homer, guests are welcome to leave their belongings at the SOSA accommodation while exploring the charming town before catching their flights home. Farewells are bittersweet, as we step out of the magical, untamed wilderness of Alaska - hearts full, cameras packed with memories, and minds forever inspired by this wild, extraordinary place.
