Recently, Blake, the Founder of The SOSA, sat down for an interview with Meredith and Sid to discuss his passion for protecting endangered species and his current projects, including efforts to safeguard Ontario’s Boreal Caribou habitat.
A Lifelong Passion for Wildlife
Blake's love for animals began at a young age. He reminisced about school projects where he chose to focus on tigers, a species severely affected by poaching. This early interest in wildlife protection has grown over the years, culminating in his active role in conservation efforts today.
Leveraging Fame for a Cause
Hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, Blake's conservation work gained significant momentum over the past three years. He credits his platform from "The Bachelor" franchise for giving him a voice to advocate for animals that cannot speak for themselves. This unique opportunity has allowed him to bring attention to various wildlife issues and engage a broader audience in conservation efforts.
Protecting Ontario's Boreal Caribou
One of Blake's notable projects is his collaboration with the David Suzuki Foundation to protect the Boreal Caribou habitat in Ontario. Caribou populations are declining due to logging and other human disturbances. Despite the presence of the Endangered Species Act, loopholes created by government lobbying have allowed continued exploitation of these critical habitats. Blake and his team are pushing for federal intervention to enforce stricter protections.
Blake emphasized the need for public support through petitions, urging people to educate themselves and take action. By signing petitions and spreading awareness, the public can pressure the federal government to step in and address the decline of Caribou populations and other affected wildlife.
Using Platforms for Positive Change
Blake's conservation message is clear: use your voice and platform, no matter how big or small, to make a difference. He continues to galvanize support through his Instagram, where he shares educational content and updates on his conservation work.
How You Can Help
